Really Really Free Market: Breaking Up with Capitalism
The RRFM is a public market where everything is free, and no one has to exchange money or trade. Everyone is invited to drop off what they don’t want and leave with what they do. Food, clothing, books, music and art will all be available to browse and take away.
With the theme of “Breaking Up with Capitalism,” this Really Really Free Market models an alternative to our commerce-driven culture. Just a few steps away from State Street, the Santa Barbara community will gather to share belongings, food, games, and conversation, outside of the flow of commerce.
Participants will hold workshops teaching do-it-yourself activities and promoting alternative social structures. In prior RRFMs, workshops have covered self-defense, permaculture and screen printing. This RRFM looks forward to similarly themed workshops including alternative economic principles, progressive relaxation, Tar Sands Blockade, and more to be determined as the event approaches.
Occupy SB invites everyone to participate in this gathering, which will be shaped by the contributions and creativity of the people who attend.
Occupy SB is an organization committed to creating an equitable, just community where all can enjoy a high quality of life. We host General Assemblies at 2pm evert Saturday at De la Guerra Plaza, and have work parties at 7pm every Wednesday at Casa de la Raza. Both of these meetings are open to the community.
