Rincon Classic On Hold Again

With only two weekends left in their original waiting period, organizers for the Rincon Classic announced late Wednesday that once again, due to a crummy surf forecast, the annual surf competition will not be held this weekend. Specifically, it is the all but flat conditions predicted for this Saturday that forced contest director Chris Keet to make the call.

“Unfortunately, the contest isn’t going to happen this week. Saturday just looks too small,” explained Keet with a less-than-stoked tone in his voice. “It was a tough call because the weather looks great and Sunday should have some waves, but Saturday is just going to be flat.”

The good news, however, is that Keet received permission from California State Parks that allows him to extend the waiting period for the contest for two additional weeks. Originally, the Classic had to run on one of the weekends between the beginning of January and next weekend, February 23 and 24. Now, it has some bonus time and could be held as late as March 8 and 9.

With three weeks left to hold the contest, Keet summed up the situation perfectly: “Time to cross your fingers and pray for some surf.” For the latest information on the contest go to rinconclassic.com.
