This is the fifth annual wine dinner hosted by Jina Bae, Chef of A-RU Japanese Restaurant in Buellton. Courses are specifically created and paired with wines specially selected from People Helping People’s Vino de Sueños label. The Vino de Sueños wines are produced and donated by local premium wineries, specially labeled with reproductions of donated original art works, and sold by PHP to raise funds for services to vineyard and farm workers.

According to PHP Board President and Vino de Sueños event chair, Becky Barieau, “(I)t is a privilege to work with Chef Bae each year to put on a remarkable dinner with amazing food to support a great cause in our community”, she said. “I am consistently impressed and inspired by Jina’s ability to create refined courses that pair well with both red and white wines. It is a joy to work with her to plan the event as well as attend the dinner.”

The March 24th A-RU Wine Dinner Menu features six courses in the following order: Fresh Oysters, Artisinal Tofu Three Ways, Mango Rock Shrimp, Tuna Tataki, Rabbit Egg Roll, and Chowan Mashi. These dishes will be paired with, in order: Goat Bubbles Sparkling Wine; 2011 Quail Crossing Pinot Grigio; 2011 Foxen Chenin Blanc; 2010 Fiddlehead Sauvignon Blanc; 2010 Standing Sun GSM; and 2009 Kalyra Sticky Wicket Viognier.

“I enjoy creating a menu with unique dishes that broaden peoples’ views of what Japanese cuisine is and should be paired with,” Chef Bae said. “Each year I am excited by the opportunity to design a menu that features and compliments the Vino de Sueños wines and surprises and impresses my patrons.”

The A-RU dinner will begin at 5 P.M. on March 24th and tickets are $125 per person all inclusive of food, wine, tax and tip.
