Fundraising for the campaign is being led by DP Charger Associates, a 501 c 3 non-profit which raises funds for DP athletics.

With $200,000 already raised, $425,000 remains to be raised. These funds will contribute to completing the first phase of what is being called the DP Field and Stadium Campaign. The first phase will include a new synthetic field and the resurfacing of the running track. A total of $1.2 million is to be raised to complete this phase of the improvements.

The transition to a synthetic field offers a number of environmental and safety improvements. Removing the grass will eliminate the use of pesticides, herbicides and save up to 1,000,000 gallons of water a year. It will also eradicate dangerous gopher holes. The school will no longer be faced with the cost of mowing or reseeding and the usage of the field could increase by over 100% year round versus a grass field which calls for numerous replacements throughout the year.

“We are grateful to the Santa Barbara School Board for recognizing the value of this endeavor which will allow for a safer experience for our athletes, promotes environmentally forward thinking technologies, and will end up saving taxpayer money in the long run. We hope the community will help support us in this effort,” said Mark Linehan, Co-President, DP Charger Associates. Construction on the field and track is scheduled to start as soon as the necessary funds are raised.

The entire project is expected to cost a total of $3 million with additional phases including a press box, a visitor’s restroom and concession stand, and a new entrance plaza and meeting rooms. The organization is offering naming right for the field.
