Students attending college in the 37th District received more than $17 million in Cal Grants, Assemblymember Das Williams announced this week. Cal Grants are guaranteed to all high school seniors who apply for them on time and meet eligibility requirement, and 4,355 were awarded. The grants are available to students going to public and private universities and colleges, and vocations, career, and technical schools, though severe budget cuts meant enrollment at public colleges and universities between 2007 and 2012 decreased by more than half a million students.

“I believe it is the responsibility of our state government and higher education institutions to ensure college is both affordable and accessible to all qualified students,” said Williams. “As chair of the Assembly Committee on Higher Education, I have made reinvesting in higher education a top priority, but more must be done.”
