A Goleta woman was struck and killed by a freight train on Saturday morning near the Goleta Amtrak station in what appears to be an accidental collision, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kelly Hoover. The woman — identified as Suzanne Worsham, 49 — was talking on her cell phone after visiting a friend at a nearby encampment when she walked onto the tracks. The train conductor honked his horn several times, Hoover said; the train was moving at 60 miles per hour.

The cause and manner of Worsham’s death will be determined pending an investigation by the Coroner’s Office, Hoover said. Worsham’s next of kin have been notified of her passing.
