The Good Land once again lived up to its chosen moniker, according to a SafeWise survey, which placed Goleta as the 50th safest city in California when ranked by crime statistics. The 13-year-old city of just over 30,000 citizens boasted 1.41 violent crimes per thousand residents, according to SafeWise; California’s average is 3.96, and the national average is 3.67. For property crimes, Goleta logged 14.83 per thousand, compared to California’s 26.65 and the nation’s 27.30.
SafeWise, an online site where consumers can compare home security systems, examined cities of over 10,000 in population that had available FBI Crime Report data to come up with its rankings. It touted Goleta’s website Project Goleta for keeping the community “up to date on a wealth of city projects,” including parks, bike paths, and traffic improvements. Last year, the site considered Goleta number 22 for safety and praised its friendliness to business as an incubator for UCSB.
