Responding crews mop up the scene

A late night fire over the weekend caused approximately $150,000 in damage to the back of two State Street businesses.

At around 1 a.m. on Saturday, Santa Barbara firefighters responded to a report of smoke and flames coming from the roof of a building on the 900 block of State Street. Crews ran hose lines through the front of the stores — Namaste, and Rooms and Gardens — and found the blaze in the courtyard behind the building.

“Aggressive action by firefighters prevented the spread of the fire to neighboring businesses,” said City Fire Department spokesperson Rich Griguoli in a press release. Montecito crews assisted in the containment. No injuries were reported.

Griguoli said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
