At approximately 9:53 a.m. on Friday, a three-way collision between a Chevrolet and two motorcycles killed Anthony Terrones, 22, of Lompoc, a motorcyclist who was moving from Highway 1 to southbound Highway 101 in Buellton.

John A. Hertz, 55, of Helendale was transitioning onto Highway 101 southbound in his 2015 Chevrolet Impala at a slower speed than Terrones, who was riding his 2003 Honda motorcycle at a high speed close behind Hertz. Terrones braked, but could not stop in time. He hit the rear of the Chevrolet and was ejected into the lane at the Highway 1 and Highway 101 southbound interchange, according to a California Highway Patrol (CHP) press release.

Jaime Jimenez, 21, of Lompoc was riding his 2003 Yamaha motorcycle at a high speed on the interchange when he hit Terrones, lost control of his bike, and slid into the median between Highway 1 and Highway 101 southbound. Terrones died on scene due to injuries. Jimenez suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Hertz was uninjured.

The interchange was closed for about one and half hours after the accident. The CHP is investigating whether intoxication contributed to the collision.
