Armory Bond Backed

In a recent meeting of the Santa Barbara school board, there was broad enthusiasm and support among members for adding the purchase and development of the Army National Guard Armory property to a bond measure slated for this November. This is wonderful news for the community, and I encourage all residents who value public education to strongly support this initiative. The acquisition of the Armory property will significantly enhance the educational opportunities of our local students and area residents, who would benefit from a potential variety of dynamic programs, courses, and uses the facility could provide in such rare proximity to two existing secondary-school sites. Many thanks to those who have led Armory acquisition efforts, especially Assemblymember Das Williams and former school board member Lanny Ebenstein. Acquisition of the National Guard Armory would link the two existing campuses of Santa Barbara Junior High and Santa Barbara High School to create the single largest public education property in the city.
