Several residential streets in Lompoc were temporarily closed while the Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad checked out what looked like a pipe bomb. Police were called when a resident on the 900 block of North Oleander Place found an odd-looking object on the doorstep of the house. A Bomb Squad robot was used to look the device over, while neighbors were either asked to evacuate or requested via Reverse 9-1-1 to remain in their homes until the device was identified. A number of surrounding streets were closed for safety reasons, the Lompoc Police Department stated.

The robot allowed deputies to see the object was not a bomb, and they later learned it was a pitching trainer used by softball players. A Lompoc coach had left the fast-pitch training device at the wrong address.
