Lobero Theatre Associates Hold Festive Holiday Tea
Annual Event Collects Toys for CALM
On Wednesday, December 7, the Lobero Theatre Associates held a lovely Holiday Tea at the Four Seasons Biltmore. This annual event allows Associates to introduce friends to the organization and collect toys for CALM, (Child Abuse Listening Meditation).
There were about 75 in attendance, including some Lobero Theatre board members and staff. Co-chairs Mindy Denson and Emily Johnson welcomed the group and lead a short program, but most of the afternoon was dedicated to socializing. The Biltmore outdid itself with a wide assortment of sweets, including warm scones and chocolate profiteroles. Holiday decorations were at every turn and Fredrik Rosvall played delightful piano music. A large table was overflowing with donated toys for CALM.
Founded in 1972, the Lobero Theatre Associates has raised more than $1 million in support of the theater. The Associates provide major ongoing support for the Lobero’s youth programs. They have also funded the renovation of the Courtyard, the purchase of the Steinway grand piano, and the acquisition of a new ticketing system. This year, the Associates are raising funds for a roof repair project.
Through one of the youth programs they fund, students are provided the opportunity to sing, dance, act, and play instruments on stage through several performing arts organizations, including the Santa Barbara Vocal Jazz Foundation, the Santa Barbara Youth Symphony, and Gustafson Dance. This year, more than 900 students performed. Through another program, low-income children and their families are given free tickets to attend performances.
The Associates main fundraising vehicle is its annual Hats Off Luncheon which this year will be held on March 15 and will feature guest speaker Alan Thicke.
The Lobero Theatre is California’s oldest, continuously operating theater and it attracts world-renowned musicians, dancers and actors. It is home to the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra and the Flamenco Arts Festival and is one of the venues for the SB International Film Festival.
