Daily Grind Buys Its Home

The venerable morning joe institution of the Daily Grind just purchased its Mission and De la Vina digs with the assistance of real estate agent Christi Vior, the scion of an equally venerable and much-missed Santa Barbara bread empire. The $2,595,000 transaction is Santa Barbara old school all the way, with the property transferring from the Susan Miratti Trust — Susan, who died in 2014, was the daughter of Edward Miratti who had owned several liquor stores in Santa Barbara for decades — to Yolanda Gonzalez and Luis Cubilla, co-owners of the family coffee business.

Daily Grind has served coffees and pastries at that corner since 1995, as well as breakfasts, lunches, salads, and smoothies into the dinner hours both there and at its newer upper De la Vina location. Gonzalez and Cubilla, sister and brother, have been long-term leaseholders of both the former Shell gas station location and the old Miratti’s building around the corner, said Vior, with restaurants tenanting the latter on and off over the years. The sale was through Lee & Associates, with Steve Leider and Vior representing the seller.
