Rocio Ochoa Silva, a 19-year-old mother from Goleta, has been arrested for abusing her six-week-old son, according to a report issued by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s office.
Early Wednesday morning, Sheriff’s deputies arrested Silva after Cottage Hospital filed a report of child abuse, as evidenced by the severe head trauma suffered by the infant.
The child was originally taken to Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital with seizures by Silva and her 31-year-old husband. The head trauma was so severe that after being transferred to S.B. Cottage Hospital, the victim was then sent to Los Angeles Children’s Hospital.
As the six-week-old undergoes treatment in L.A., his mother is being held without bail in the Santa Barbara City Jail on an immigration detainer. According to Drew Sugars, the Sheriff’s public information officer, the investigation is ongoing. Although detectives believe Silva did in fact cause the injuries, the father is not suspected of child abuse.
Sugars said the child is still alive as of Thursday afternoon.

Absolutely disgusting. Even sicker is the fact that soon the culturopologists will all come out in her defense saying that it is a cultural norm to nearly beat a infant to death.
I don't care what a person's cultural/ethnic background is, THIS AMOUNTS TO SEVERE CHILD ABUSE!
I hope she gets put in general population because sometimes even the lowest of low have a better sense of 'justice" than us on the outside :) henry

One important item that no one is reporting on is that the Mother is an illegal alien. She should not be in the United States and now California will not only have to pay to imprison and "rehabilitate" her in order to "re-unite" her with the son she abused, but we will have to pay the considerable medical bills that could be life long for an innocent child abuse by someone who should not be in this country. Its highly unlikely that she would ever be deported. Shame on us for allowing anyone who illegal to stay.
I feel for the child, but am sickened that no one has the backbone to deport anyone found in the country illegally. There is a process to get to the US, which needs to be fixed, but for now we need to follow the rules.

Since the issue of her legal status has been raised, let's not forget that the father is a player in all this and we do not know his legal status at this time.

Arturo- If she is found guilty of these charges she gets deported automatically. I mean sure she has some rights and can get herself an immigration lawyer, but I doubt they will find a reason for her to stay in the country. If anything she will probably be back again illegally, which is where the problem is. These borders are not secure if anybody with two legs can get over.

How many more monsters do we have to put up with before we start eliminating them from society. This is not human! The Death Penalty needs to be enforced against these non humans who are sociopaths, psychopaths, habitual violent offenders, and all the other vermin that people think are human because they look like us but are not!.

"Santa Barbara City Jail" = umm I think the writer meant "County" jail since the city does not have a jail.

SB County is sooooo worried about making sure to pander to the anti-pet-ownership zealots by requiring surgical desexing of all dogs...and people like this are allowed to breed and abuse the resulting babies. Disgusting!
We are more worried about whether dogs have ovaries and testicles than we are about whether insane people are cranking out and subsequently victimizing innocent children. THIS IS NUTS! WAKE UP!
SB...you are so obsessed with gonads...then how about spaying and neutering child abusers and not worrying so much about what PETA, H$U$ and the rest of their supporters think?
This is insane! How anyone could do this to a little baby is just beyond me. Spay this woman and neuter the father of this poor little boy...quickly...before they do this to another child!
Sick, sick, sick!

This is not culture! Let us not forget all the "white" parents who have beaten, molested, and even killed their children....Melissa Drexler - “The Prom Mom”, Andrea Yates, Susan Eubanks, Susan Smith, Dr. Jeffrey R. MacDonald....
Let's not let the husband (a US citizen) of so easy. He should be held accountable just as much as the wife! He didn't defend his child!!! He didn't see the bruises on his child?? He didn't stop her?? Look into this coward....he's the felon with 2 strikes....story didn't mention that now, did they?

This girl is my former student. I remember her face as a child, hugging her, working with her for a year. What was going on at home when she wasn't at school? Was she beaten, sexually molested? So many of my students are living lives of horror. I continually pray for my students, and have called CPS when they tell me things in confidence. I am not making excuses for Rocio, but I know that many victims of abuse repeat those same things. Our community, our nation needs healing!
