Detectives Investigating Isla Vista Murder

Santa Barbara Man Stabbed Early Sunday Morning

Santa Barbara detectives have launched a homicide investigation into the stabbing death of 26-year-old Vincent Velasquez, Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Drew Sugars announced this afternoon.

Velasquez, a Santa Barbara resident, was reportedly stabbed in a fight at around 12:40 Sunday morning on the 6600 block of Abrego Road in Isla Vista. A friend rushed him to the Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital Emergency Room where he was pronounced dead by medical staff.

At this point, said Sugars, the Sheriff’s Department is still looking for suspects. He asked that anyone with information on the incident call the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division at (805) 681-4150, or the Sheriff’s Anonymous Tip Line at (805) 681-4171. They can also use the Anonymous Tips and Information page on the Sheriff’s Web site.
