If you’re looking to get outta Dodge, but don’t have the dough
to drop on a real trip, why not try being a tourist in your own
town for a day? Instead of cursing the visitors taking their
leisurely time cruising down Cabrillo Boulevard on a bicycle built
for two, why not commandeer the people-mover of your choice, and
become one of them?
Wheel Fun Rentals: Rents mountain bikes, beach
cruisers, three- and four-wheel bikes, even a bike that holds up to

The Land Shark: This amphibious tour bus goes
out every day, weather permitting, spending an hour on land, and a
half-hour at sea. Pick-up on Cabrillo, at Stearns Wharf. Summer
tours begin at noon, 2 and 4 p.m. Winter tours: noon and 2 p.m.

The S.B. Trolley: Narrated downtown tour begins
and ends at Stearns Wharf. $16/adults; $8/kids under 12. Tours

Segway of S.B.: Electric, self-balancing “human
transporters” can travel up to 24 miles on a single charge, and are
rented by the hour, day, or week (prices vary). Call 963-7672 or
S.B. Harley-Davidson: Rental fleet includes
nine bikes of the touring variety (they include bags and
windshields), rented out in 24-hour blocks. Renters must have a
motorcycle endorsement. $150/24 hours; ask for Bubba, who may be

MTD’s Electric Shuttle: Downtown-Waterfront shuttle provides
service along State Street and the Waterfront. Stops are marked
with blue and black sailboat symbols. 25 cents one-way; children
under 5 ride free. Daily, every 10 minutes from 10:15 a.m. to 6
