New Bill Requires CalTrans to Recycle Concrete

In an effort to reduce CalTrans’s solid waste contribution to landfills, the State Assembly passed AB 484, which requires CalTrans to recycle asphalt concrete and Portland cement concrete whenever it is feasible to do so. According to the bill’s author, Assemblymember Pedro Nava, this measure is necessary due to “the growing scarcity of virgin aggregate and the needless dumping of recyclable construction material and demolition waste.”
