Brush Fire Stops Traffic on 101

Traffic halted on both sides of Highway 101 just south of Gaviota on the evening of 9/3 due to a brush fire in the area. The fire-fed by strong, gusty winds-quickly swept the hillside near an oil refinery and the abandoned Vista Del Mar School site, eventually jumping across the freeway. The cause of the fire was unknown, and traffic was rerouted to highways 246 and 154. The101 was open in both directions as of 9/4.
