Panel Studies Impact of Retiring Public Servants
A 12-member panel charged with studying what retiring public employees’ healthcare costs might look like in 2008 issued a startling report this week: Public agencies throughout California will face $118 billion in such costs during the next 30 years for their retirees. The Public Employee Post-Employment Benefits Commission, appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger last year, urged county, city, and state governments to allot money specifically for these commitments.
