• Save Houses, Etc., a group of concerned citizens trying to save buildings and open space in S.B., meets on alternating Thursdays and Fridays to collect city agendas regarding planning and development. Meet this Thursday and Friday, January 17 and 18, at 3 p.m. at a private residence at 630 Garden Street to learn how you can help. Call 962-6508 for more info.

•Learn how to ride your bike safely and confidently on the road, as well as basic bike maintenance tips, in a two-day comprehensive workshop at BikeStation S.B. (1219 Anacapa St.). Thursday, January 17, meet for classroom training from 5:30-8:30 p.m., and then Saturday, January 20, from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. bring your bike and helmet for actual road training. Cost is $30, but some scholarships are available. Call 252-1469.

•A new support group for women who have experienced any form of sexual abuse is starting up. They’ll meet to form a safe space from 7-8 p.m. every Thursday night at the Alano Club (235 E. Cota St.) and use the 12 Steps to help overcome daily after-affects they might face. Call 861-9700 or visit for more info.
