Did you know that a blue whale’s heart is the size of a Volkswagen Beetle, and that its heartbeat can be heard two miles away? Or that a hummingbird has the smallest heart in the world and that it beats 1,250 times each minute? Inspired by these amazing facts, artist Emilie Halpern will lead a family workshop at Contemporary Arts Forum on Saturday, February 2, from 12-2 p.m., where the whole family can work together to make special Valentine’s Day crafts, such as solar print cards with secret messages inside! Have fun collaborating with other families on a unique sound-and-sculpture installation based on the heart of the blue whale. Contemporary Arts Forum is located at 653 Paseo Nuevo. The workshop is free. Call 966-5373 to RSVP.
