Police offered few details regarding the 8/8 stabbing of an 18-year-old man at the Guest House Inn at 3344 State St. Officers arrived at the scene to find the victim bleeding profusely as a result of multiple stab wounds. Investigators believe the stabbing is gang-related. (/stabbing814)

Following several 911 calls in the preceding week, Santa Barbara police on 8/7 arrested a 64-year-old man at his residence on the 1300 block of Salsipuedes Street after he made repeated threats to kill himself or doctors. Upon entering his house, officers found hundreds of pounds of ammunition and approximately 150 rifles, 50 handguns, swords, bows, arrows, and hand grenades. The man was taken into custody by a Crisis and Recovery Emergency Services unit without incident.

An 8/5 helicopter crash in the Shasta Trinity National Forest killed Jim Ramage, 63, a former Santa Barbara resident and a San Marcos High School alumnus. National Forest spokesperson Kathleen Good said that Ramage is remembered by Los Padres National Forest employees because he worked as a contract pilot in the area. A memorial service will be held on 8/16 in Redding. (/jimramage)

County fire investigators are looking into who lit several small fires in the early morning hours of 8/11 at Santa Ynez Charter School and Santa Ynez Elementary School. Firefighters on the scene found small debris piles pushed against school walls. The fires were extinguished before they could damage any property. Anyone with information about this attempted arson should call fire investigators at 686-5061.

UCSB police arrested four people-three from Los Angeles and one from Pauma Valley, California-over the weekend for illegally hunting on the Sedgwick Reserve, the 5,900 plot of Santa Ynez Valley land owned by the University of California and used year-round by researchers and students. Though 8/9 marked the first day of deer season, hunting is prohibited at the reserve. Officers reported one of the arrested men had killed a deer.

The Sheriff’s Department announced on 8/8 than an investigation into credit card fraud resulted in the arrest of 47-year-old Karen Peterson and 49-year-old Debra Mangino, both of Buellton. The women were arrested on charges using a former neighbor’s Social Security number to open a credit card account. Their bail was revoked due to a pending court case. (/fraud814)

The Santa Barbara Police Department praised work by its Crisis Negotiation Response Team in helping bring a peaceful end to an 8/6 standoff at a residence on the 800 block of Voluntario Street. A domestic dispute turned dangerous when 34-year-old resident Mario Escobar allegedly brandished a shotgun. His family escaped, and, following a tense two-hour negotiation, Escobar surrendered peacefully. (/standoff814)

CHP spokesperson Officer Dan Barba described Rancho Palos Verdes resident Katrina Martin’s survival of an 8/8 car accident as “miraculous.” Though Martin was not wearing a seatbelt, she sustained only minor injuries after the car she was riding in swerved across three highway lanes, rolled several times, struck a utility pole, and ejected her through the sunroof. Barba reminded motorists to wear seatbelts, regardless of Martin’s luck. (/accident814)
