In an apparent attempt to grab property tax revenues from the Goleta West Sanitary District, the City of Goleta plans to apply to the Local Agency Formation Commission to “detach” itself from the sewer district. The Goleta West Board of Directors met 1/27 to discuss Goleta taking over its sewer operations, and how the change would affect residents in excluded areas such as Isla Vista. Newly inducted State Senator Tony Strickland, whose election campaign promised to reach across party lines to solve the state budget woes, held a “card table” community outreach session at the Camino Real Marketplace on 1/23, hosted by Goleta mayor Roger Aceves. Strickland individually addressed a dozen or so people, who expressed concern over the economy. Strickland advocated low taxes, spending caps, and a rainy-day fund to help California through the current economic downtown. (/strickland129)
