Arrest Made in USC Hit-and-Run Case

The investigation into the hit-and-run accident that killed Santa Barbara native Adrianna Bachan has yielded an arrest, according to reports from Los Angeles. A woman in her thirties was taken into custody on Thursday night on charges of being the driver of the car that hit Bachan, an 18-year-old freshman at the University of Southern California. No other description was released save for a note from the L.A. Times blog that that the woman had allegedly been driving with a suspended license at the time she struck Bachan.

The girl’s mother, Santa Barbara resident Carmen Bachan, has been vocal in encouraging all possible witnesses to help authorities in apprehending the people responsible for her daughter’s death. L.A. Police are still searching for passengers who were also in the car at the time of the accident Sunday night. Also aiding the need to amass all information are several rewards being offered for good tips. Counting an offer of $100,000 pledged by an anonymous donor on Thursday, these rewards total $235,000.

The accident also injured Scottsdale, Arizona, resident Marcus Garfinkle, 19, whom police say was carried around 500 feet on the vehicle’s windshield before a passenger pulled him to the ground. The accident happened at around 3 a.m. near the USC campus at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Hoover Street.

UPDATE: The woman was later identified as 31-year-old Claudia Cabrera. After her arrest, she was held on $1 million bail.
