A wildfire is currently burning above San Roque Canyon and the Tunnel Road area in Santa Barbara, and evacuations are already underway.

The brush fire is burning mid-slope near some power lines and is making its way northward up mountain, according to county fire officials. Both Santa Barbara City and County fire officials are responding to the incident, as are fire fighters with the U.S. Forest Service. Crews are currently below the fire and coming in from the top as well. According to scanner reports, it also sounds like the California Department of Forestry or the Forest Service may soon be making water drops from the air.

Approximate fire location.

There are already evacuations ongoing for the upper reaches of Tunnel Road and Holly Road. Residents of Mission Canyon are also reportedly evacuating voluntarily. If the fire continues up over the mountain, there would be few structures threatened. If the wind shifts, however, it could turn into trouble for residents of Mission and San Roque Canyons.

Stay tuned for more information.
