Old Navy Helping Foster Families

Old Navy stores are partnering with Aspiranet this holiday season to benefit foster families. Ten Old Navy stores including the Santa Barbara location at State and Anapamu Streets are collecting clothing and other goods from the public for foster children. The drive started November 30 and continues through December 5.

Eric Jasmine, store manager of the Oakridge Old Navy store, personally visited with families at the San Jose offices of Aspiranet, a nonprofit supporting foster children and families. His store donated enough clothing for nine foster children. “I was excited to see the kids thrilled about their items,” Jasmine said.

Jasmine coordinated with other Old Navy stores to push the cause. The alliance between Aspiranet and Old Navy now includes the stores in Oakridge, Fremont, Eastridge, Marina, Salinas, Gilroy, San Luis Obispo, Valley Fair and Westgate, and Santa Barbara. “This is something that I felt very passionate about and wanted to share,” Jasmine said. “It was very easy to convince my peers to join in this event. We had one conversation and all 10 stores were on board the first day.”

Stores set out barrels for customers’ donations. Jasmine said that the event is customer driven but that his store is suggesting donations of new socks, underwear, and tee shirts as well as other items. “Any support is appreciated,” Jasmine said. “This is strictly a donation drive and I’m grateful for anyone who buys for the cause.”

Despite the short duration of the drive, Jasmine is hopeful that the Old Navy drive will raise consciousness about foster care and adoption.
