Disturbing Decision

I am so deeply disturbed by the recent Supreme Court ruling that allows Corporate America to spend unlimited amounts of money during election campaigns to influence voters , thereby undermining further our fragile democracy. We already have politicians who are bought and sold like prostitutes by big banks, the insurance industry, corporations, the pharmaceutical industry, and trail lawyers. Look at the way in which these powerful special interests have derailed the (now dead on arrival) health care reform bill. This ruling is the nail in the coffin for the voices of ordinary Americans to be heard in our political system. The notion that our government is “of the people, by the people, for the people” seems increasingly like a sad, sick joke.—Deborah Park, Goleta
