Lighten Up, Charlie

We attended the UCSB Arts and Lectures presentation “An Evening with Charlie Rose” at the strike-encirlced Arlington on Saturday, January 16, 8 p.m. While the house filled, ads for future A&L events looped clearly and incessantly on the big screen. The man appeared at 8:40 p.m. No reason given.

Why was Charlie not able to show the film clips he had “taken two days to put together”? Why were thick academic questions asked without any audience participation? Where were “Today’s Most Important Stories”?

An opportunity was passed up to provide insight into those he has interviewed, which would help maintain historical accuracy. Rose needs to drop the celebrity name-dropping—get to the substance. And A&L allow for audience entitlements.—Judee Hauer-Harris
