Clark Vandeventer Announces Candidacy
Says He Will Challenge Lois Capps in November Election
It looks like local Congressmember Lois Capps has a fight on her hands.
On March 1, across from Ben & Jerry’s in Paseo Nuevo, Republican Clark Vandeventer announced his intent to run against Capps for California’s 23rd Congressional District in November’s election.
A former deputy director of Santa Barbara County’s Reagan Ranch Center, Vandeventer believes himself to be better-equipped to deal with today’s troubled times than Capps. A young, self-described “family man,” Vandeventer cites his simultaneous love and fear for America as his primary motivations for running.
“I can’t sit idly by and watch the country get destroyed. The future of this country is my future,” he said. “Lois Capps is a nice person who is totally not right for the job,” Vandeventer added.
According to Vandeventer, the job requires more resonance from its representatives. “These are tough times. People are struggling … And meanwhile, Lois Capps and Nancy Pelosi take a business as usual, tax and spend and then tax and spend some more approach.”
Mentioning a desire for his children to live “in a free and prosperous society,” Vandeventer made very clear his intentions. “The tri-county areas have lost tens of thousands of jobs in the last few months.” And, Vandeventer added, “in November, Lois Capps will lose hers.”
