Great article by John Zant! [Sports, “A Runner’s Recollections,” 4/1/10] I was a junior on the cross-country team at San Marcos High when Bill Schrabram and Dennis Savage were seniors. Amazing runners. I believe Bill won every race his junior year. He was a natural. Dennis worked his tail off to beat Bill. That was his goal and he did it. In the yearbook he put “BBS”—Beat Bill Schrabram. That senior year they beat each other but no one ever beat them. Their placing first and second in every race was a guarantee. They literally “toyed” with the other runners; they were that good. Thanks for reminding the people of Santa Barbara/Goleta about them! —Walt Rehm
