Second District Supervisor Janet Wolf will join County Park’s officials and dogs and their owners for the grand opening of the county’s newest off-leash canine play area in Tucker’s Grove County Park.

The ribbon-cutting will take place at the new fenced canine play area in the Kiwanis Meadow section of the park at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2010.

“Creating safe, welcoming places for dogs and their owners to play is a big priority for Santa Barbara County,” Supervisor Wolf remarked. “The new fenced area at Tucker’s Grove will provide a safe environment for dogs, with access to parking, restrooms, and regional trails like the San Antonio Creek Trail.”

County Park’s officials noted that the new canine play area will be open during all hours that Tucker’s Grove County Park is open, from 8:00 a.m. to sunset. The new play area was in the planning stages for several months and was completed earlier this month. It is part of a trend in County Parks to site off-leash canine play areas in regional parks where parking and other services are available.

Other county parks boast popular off-leash areas, including WoofPAC Park in Waller Park in Santa Maria, Orcutt Community Park, Toro Canyon County Park, and an off-leash beach area adjacent to Arroyo Burro Beach County Park.

All dogs and their owners are invited to join Supervisor Wolf for Friday’s grand opening at Tucker’s Grove. Dog treats and refreshments will be available.
