Direct Relief Responds to Haiti Cholera Outbreak
Goleta-based Direct Relief International is hard at work to deliver medical aid to a cholera outbreak in earthquake-devastated Haiti. More than 140 people have already died from the diarrheal disease, and officials are hoping to keep it away from the capital city of Port-au-Prince, where hundreds of thousands of people have been living in cramped camps since the January earthquake. DRI already has distributed hygiene kits from its Haitian warehouse, and more cholera-fighting materials were shipped this week from its Goleta warehouse.
