Can’t Please Everybody
Regarding Cox Cable public affairs manager Sarah Clark’s December 9 letter:
Thank you, Ms. Clark, for taking the initiative to ensure us here in Santa Barbara that PBS viewing will not soon be lost. As to your added assurance that Cox Cable shall continue to bring us customers “the highest quality programming,” those are truly welcome words.
Indeed, as long as you continue to provide us with “learning” channels that show us the inspirational tales of toddlers dressing like little whores in public pageants, “history” channels that reveal the untold drama of pawnshop workers and lumberjacks, “discovery” channels giving us insight into foul-mouthed, working-class heroes and their custom chopper shops and crab fishing boats, and “entertainment” channels presenting a family of overindulged Armenian-American women and their important contributions to literacy and culture, we’ll be just fine.
Of course, given the undeniable “quality” and increasingly addictive power of those channels and their deplorable programs which you provide, I sadly have to wonder if anyone would have even noticed the departure of KCET in the first place – but thanks again for letting us know, nonetheless!
