Crews Battle Four North County Brushfires

Four brushfires broke out between noon and 1:00 p.m. this afternoon in Santa Barbara’s North County. Engine and dozer crews, as well as water-dropping helicopters and air tankers, have hop-scotched between the blazes which have threatened but not burned down any buildings. The Office of Emergency Services recently announced there are no evacuation orders at this time. The location and status of the fires as follows:

– What fire officials are calling the Cat Canyon incident began at 12:43 p.m. in the 6800 block of Cat Canyon Road north of Los Alamos. It was put out by 2:15 p.m. after spreading to approximately five acres.

– A small blaze broke out on Church Street in the town of Los Alamos and spread to one acre before firefighters knocked it down.

– The fire currently burning in brush off of Highway 101 near the Nojoqui Summit began at 12:50 p.m. and has spread to six acres with the potential, fire officials said, of increasing to ten acres.

– The Alisos Canyon fire was called in at 12:45 p.m. and, at this point, has spread across 80 acres with the potential of growing to 100. It began in the 9200 block of Alisos Canyon Road in the Los Alamos area.

Multiple agencies, including the U.S. Forest Service, Cal Fire, and local jurisdictions, are aiding in the effort, said County Fire Department spokesperson Captain David Sadecki.
