Sweet sweeper fire
City Fire

Santa Barbara City Fire officials released the above photo of the street sweeper fire that took place on Castillo Street yesterday morning.

When crews arrived on the scene — three engines and a truck were dispatched — they saw fire shooting from multiple compressed natural gas tanks on the sweeper. Police closed off and evacuated residents on the 1600 block of Castillo Street as the firefighters worked.

The fire was quickly contained and put out, but not before it caused moderate damage to a nearby property’s front fence and vegetation. There were no injuries.

It’s unclear what caused the fire, and investigators are looking into the incident.
