I wanted to apologize and clarify how my comments in the latest edition of the Santa Barbara Independent misrepresented the work of both the South Coast Gang Task Force and the Santa Barbara Campaign for Youth and Families.

When I was interviewed for the article, I referred to the work of The Campaign as the work of the Task Force, and I had asked the reporter to contact Raquel Lopez to get a better clarification. In my mind, I thought the Campaign’s work was somehow affiliated with the Task Force because I saw the Campaign’s name on the Task Force’s agenda earlier in the year. So I do apologize. I know the Campaign is working hard to make a positive impact and any public confusion or misrepresentation of its work should not be wrongly perceived.

As a note, The Santa Barbara Social Justice Coalition will be holding a public forum on October 13th to discuss the proposed gang injunction. PUEBLO is a co-sponsor of this event.
