West Fork Cold Spring Trail Work Day November 20

SBMTV sponsors volunteer work days to support trail maintenance and the Santa Barbara Front Country Trails Program. The Santa Barbara Front Country Trails are managed jointly by the City of Santa Barbara, the County of Santa Barbara and the US Forest Service.

Participation in the workday is a great way for the public to contribute to the protection and enhancement of Santa Barbara’s trail system. Starting at 9 am, work will include opening the trail corridor by cutting brush and improving water control features to ready the trail for the winter rains. The work day is open to all, no experience is necessary. Just bring sturdy trail shoes and water and wear sunscreen. Bike helmets and gloves are helpful but will also be provided on site. SBMTV will provide instructions, tools and snacks. Volunteers will meet at the upper West Fork Trailhead on Gibraltar Road at 9 am. Carpooling is encouraged.

This event is an excellent opportunity to learn how to do basic trail maintenance following U.S. Forest Service guidelines and to use bike cargo trailers. The trailers will be used to transport tools to and from the trail work area. Volunteers will be able to bike or hike without carrying tools. SBMTV currently has three tool trailers in service. Volunteers are welcome to bring their own trailers and SBMTV is always looking for donations.
