Spring Arts Preview 2013: Classical
Pre-19th Century Music is Amongst This Season’s Highlights
They’re the oldest continuously performing musical ensemble in the United States, and since 2009 they have been directed by Harry Christophers, the legendary British conductor of choral music and advocate of period instruments and performance style. If their recent recordings are any indication, this will be a night to remember, with soloist and concertmaster Aisslinn Nosky leading the charge on Vivaldi’s thoroughly immortal Four Seasons. Originally scheduled at the Granada Theatre, this concert will only benefit from the more intimate confines of UCSB’s Campbell Hall, and should go a long way toward explaining why the early music/period performance movement continues to generate so much excitement in the classical world. Wednesday, May 1, at 8 p.m. Call (805) 893-3535 or visit artsandlectures.sa.ucsb.edu.
