I was surprised to learn from the Friends Committee on National Legislation that 37 cents of every dollar we pay in federal income taxes go to pay for current and past wars. Education, diplomacy, and help to the nearly 100 million people living in poverty in this country are a better investment.

A philosophical approach to alternative solutions to conflict was best phrased by a great orator and one of the greatest freedom fighters of the 20th century, Martin Luther King jr., when he said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
