For SAAM, Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center will be conducting a campaign which focuses on asking 500 community members to make positive and encouraging statements to survivors of sexual assault. Our campaign is called Be 1 in 500.

More than 500 community members made empowering and motivational statements to survivors of sexual assault. A YouTube video was created from the slides of photographs of participants holding their signs with words of encouragement. The Be 1 in 500 Campaign video will make its debut on April 24th at our Project Unbreakable event at UCSB!

The Be 1 in 500 Campaign was sparked as a response to Project Unbreakable, a photography project created by Grace Brown. Brown works with survivors of sexual assault, photographing them holding a poster with a quote from their perpetrator. We will be hosting Grace Brown’s Project Unbreakable at UCSB in the Student Resource Center Multipurpose Room on Denim Day, Wednesday, April 24, 2013 from 5:30-7:30pm.

Santa Barbara Rape Crisis has been serving members of our community since 1974 by empowering survivors, and educating the community about the realities of sexual violence. SBRCC supports sexual assault survivors through the initial crisis and subsequent stages of healing. Through community education, we are committed to changing attitudes and perceptions that create an environment where sexual assault is tolerated.
