Name-Calling

It never ceases to amaze me when I see or hear people resort to personal attacks and name-calling when they don’t agree with someone’s opinions or beliefs. In her column of June 5, 2013 entitled “Atheists Saved,” about a statement made by Pope Francis, Starshine Roshell chose to rename him as “Franky” and “His Oldiness.” She also described him as “a pointy-hatted baby blesser.” But she doesn’t stop there. She goes on with her name-calling, declaring Almighty God Himself as “a magical entity who would lay waste to terrified children with His Divine Tornado.”

Why? This doesn’t open the door to any kind of fruitful dialogue. It’s simply a useless rant.

In the same opinion column, Ms. Roshell calls the Catholic Church astonishingly rigid and intolerant. Just who is the intolerant one here?

The Catholic Church seems to be the final outpost for non-politically correct, malicious attacks. Maybe Ms. Roshell should study the complete history of the Catholic Church, Ms Roshell. Read the Early Church Fathers and the lives of the saints. She might be surprised at what she discovers and realize why the Church has remained in existence for over 2000 years.

If you change your mind about atheism and decide you want to share in the love Jesus Christ offers through his Church, Ms. Roshell, I’m sure you will be welcomed with open arms. God love you and bless you, whether you believe in Him or not.
