Slain Teen Soldiers Spotlighted

A display commemorating teenagers who died while serving in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars will be set up at Santa Barbara High School this Friday at noon. In honor of Memorial Day, the Social Justice Club has teamed up with Veterans for Peace and other community members to demonstrate the fatal results of war. More than 400 placards of names and photographs of 18- and 19-year-olds who died while in the service will be on display, and student and staff participants will read the names of the service members over a loudspeaker in the quad around noon. Recently, these groups have been working to update the district’s board policy that limits military recruiters on high school campuses.
