Please vote “no” on Measure P. There is no need to fix something that is not broken.
My family helped establish Santa Maria at the turn of the century. We have been business owners, teachers, parents, professionals, and many families raising our children in the area. The devastation this proposition will have on the economy will be insurmountable. There is no way to calculate the loss in tax revenue to the cities and state. The downward effect to the schools and public facilities won’t truly be known for many years. This does not include the lawsuits, and believe me, the oil companies have more money then the cities do regarding cost, court fees, and attorneys. Not to mention years of litigation.
It is a bad move, and the people who have lived in the area for generations are the first to be affected. My family and friends are in the area. Please vote “no” on proposition P. It is poorly written and unclear, leaving many loopholes for years of litigation.
