Goleta 101 to Be Resurfaced

Among the $174.8 million passed out by the California Transportation Commission for local transportation improvement projects statewide is close to $11 million destined for the 101 through Goleta.

The project to fix concrete dikes and metal guardrails, and also overlay a rubberized asphalt concrete mix, hopes to extend the freeway surface life along 24.8 miles of lanes between the Maria Ygnacio Creek Bridge (just south of Patterson) up to the Cathedral Oaks overcrossing (by Winchester).

The work will go out to bid in the spring, said Susana Cruz, a spokesperson for Caltrans, and construction on the six-mile stretch is expected to last about six months. Funding to improve the heavily trafficked zone comes via Caltrans from the State Highway Operation and Protection Program for preventive maintenance on California highways.
