More than 1,000 people donated $55,000 at a barbecue fundraiser for Senior Sheriff’s Deputy Dan McSkimming at the Goleta Elks Lodge on 2/21. McSkimming, a 16-year veteran of the department, suffered a stroke last August when a blood clot in his neck was released during a chiropractic adjustment. He has made major strides since then but has mounting medical bills and isn’t receiving worker’s comp. Around 300 people have donated more than $60,000 through an online GoFundMe account.
