Verifying rumors that she would seek higher office, Santa Barbara school boardmember Monique Limón filed a candidate intention statement for State Assembly in 2016. Though her decision to run is not final, Limón said that through her work on the school board, she knows firsthand the “pivotal role” the state plays in shaping the future inside and outside of the classroom. No challengers have officially emerged, though Ventura City Councilmember Erik Nasarenko said he is considering running.
