The Fund for Santa Barbara will soon be headed by Marcos Vargas, who for 14 years served as the executive director of the Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE), an organization he helped create. Vargas will start his new position in June and replaces longtime leader Geoff Green, who left in February to run S.B. City College’s foundation. Succeeding Vargas at CAUSE will be Maricela Morales, another cofounder and current associate executive director. Vargas said he was “honored” to join the Fund and championed his replacement as “a visionary.”
