Dos Pueblos High School Student Arrested for Threatening Teacher and Administrator

A 15-year-old Dos Pueblos High School student was arrested Thursday morning for sending threatening emails to one of his teachers and a school administrator.

According to Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kelly Hoover, the student sent a series of emails at around 10 a.m. School staff immediately notified the Sheriff’s School Resource Deputy on campus, and the student was soon identified, taken into custody, and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center in Santa Maria, where he was booked on charges of making criminal threats.

“Due to the fact he is a minor, further details regarding the incident and his identity are not being released,” Hoover said.

Santa Barbara Unified School District Superintendent David Cash issued a statement following the incident: “The safety of students and staff is our district’s number one priority. Our staff and school resource officer did an excellent job today and I am very proud of their efforts. In times such as this, I am reminded of the vital role of the school resource officer. This highly trained officer is well-known to students, works closely with the staff, is very familiar with the layout of the campus, and is an invaluable asset to our school community.”

The Sheriff’s School Resource Deputy at Dos Pueblos High School is partially funded by the City of Goleta, Hoover said.
