The Santa Barbara City Council agreed to renew the Westside United Boys & Girls Club’s lease for its digs by Bohnett Park. The new lease will run three years; the previous lease ran for 50 and expired last summer. City officials have been concerned about financial and leadership issues that have dogged United Boys & Girls Club since the Great Recession and insisted on a short lease to ensure that such concerns get addressed. With the hiring of Michael Baker as the new CEO four months ago, some of that concern has been addressed.
