Sheriff’s Office Investigates Identity of Missing Man
He Was Reportedly Swept out to Sea at Brown’s Beach
The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the identity of a man who went missing on September 6 at Brown’s Beach close to Vandenberg Air Force Base.
The man, who was reportedly hiking with a friend, was allegedly swept away by a large wave while standing on a rock. Despite a multi-agency water, air, and land search that went on for several days, the man was not found. The friend who reported the man missing identified him as Andy Trejo Silva, 32, of Santa Maria. This identity was also validated by a driver’s license from Mexico, which was found at the scene in the man’s backpack.
On Friday, family members of the missing man provided documentation to the Sheriff’s Santa Maria station stating that the man is actually Ramiro Elorza Sanchez, 41, of Santa Maria. The search has been suspending pending new leads, as the Sheriff’s Office works to confirm the missing man’s identity.
